Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva announced that Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is scheduled to discuss the revival of their projects in Sri Lanka next week, highlighting a further benefit of debt restructuring.

He emphasized that despite interest from Chinese companies in the airport project, contractual obligations with Japan dictate that contracts must be awarded to Japanese firms.

Additionally, he revealed that management of the financially strained Mattala Airport will soon be overseen by a joint venture involving Russia and India.

The Minister also noted that progress is underway at Kankesanthurai port, with India providing substantial assistance totaling USD 69 million.
