The Sri Lankan Embassy in Lebanon has issued a statement concerning the safety of Sri Lankan citizens in the country amid recent regional tensions.
The Embassy reassures Sri Lankans that there is no cause for undue alarm but advises them to exercise caution. Ambassador Kapila Jayaweera emphasized the Embassy’s ongoing communication with the Sri Lankan community, which numbers around 7,600, including about 25 workers in the conflict-affected southern regions. He confirmed that these workers are safe and reassured their families.
The Embassy recommends that Sri Lankans in Lebanon limit unnecessary travel and avoid crowded areas. Families are encouraged to maintain regular contact with their loved ones in Lebanon.
In a separate announcement, Ambassador Nimal Bandara addressed potential travel disruptions due to reduced flights between Israel and Colombo, with layovers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and New Delhi. Passengers are advised to verify their flight schedules with airlines before heading to the airport.
