Foreign Minister states no new agreements on Palk Strait or Kachchathivu reached

Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry clarified that no recent agreement has been reached with India concerning the boundaries of the Palk Strait and the Katchatheevu issue. He informed News 1st that there have been no bilateral discussions on this matter between the two countries. Minister Sabry’s remarks were prompted by a report in India’s Hindu newspaper on Friday (28), which suggested the existence of a new agreement between India and Sri Lanka regarding the Palk Strait and Katchatheevu. The Hindu referenced an official statement but did not disclose any specifics about the agreement. Minister Ali Sabry reiterated that no such discussions have occurred, despite the newspaper’s report.
