An International Monetary Fund team led by Peter Breuer is currently in Colombo.
According to an IMF spokesperson speaking to News 1st, the team is on a staff visit to review recent economic developments and follow up on the implementation of Sri Lanka’s economic reform program, which is supported by the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility.
State Finance Minister Shehan Semasinghe announced that the IMF team will meet with Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe today to discuss the Extended Fund Facility.
Semasinghe confirmed that this visit initiates a series of staff discussions aimed at securing financial support.
He also noted that despite the ongoing election period, President Wickremesinghe has prioritized the implementation of agreements with the IMF.
